The importance of proper nutrition
Hectic schedules often leave little time for eating three proper meals a day.
However, like exercise, eating right is an important component of overall health and wellness. And let’s face it; saying that you are too busy is a poor excuse.
When you’re not eating properly, you’re going to have less energy, be less alert and you will not be functioning at your best. No matter what you are employed at your quality of work will be affected, along with your mood and patience.
And it’s not simply about eating, if you’re not eating the right food, your focus and concentration can also be affected.
For many people, mornings consist of dashing out the door coffee in hand, having no breakfast at all. But eating a piece of fruit, having some toast or a smoothie is a great way to get your body going.
You also need to have a healthy lunch, so whether you are at home or at work, a great tip is to make a little extra dinner the night before and use the leftovers for lunch the next day.
Ideally you should be having snacks throughout the day as well. However, avoid sugar laden choices like chocolate bars and opt instead for protein and energy packed nuts, fruits or even another smoothie.
For many of us, our days officially end well into the evening, but that is no excuse to skip dinner. Eating balanced meals are important and while everyone is different, your meal should consist of a half plate of vegetables, a quarter of proteins and a quarter of carbohydrate.
While it can be a challenge, the key to success is planning ahead and scheduling time to eat because the bottom line is if you aren’t eating properly your immune system and your health can be compromised.
